Adagen (Enzon Inc.) - General Information:
Bovine adenosine deaminase derived from bovine intestine that has been extensively pegylated for extended serum half lifePharmacology:
Used to replace deficient or inactive adenosine deaminase which leads to severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID). The enzyme is responsible for converting adenosine to inosine. In the absence of adenosine deaminase, the purine substrates adenosine, 2'-deoxyadenosine and their metabolites are actually toxic to lymphocytes thereby leading to diminished immune function.Adagen (Enzon Inc.) for patients
Adagen (Enzon Inc.) Interactions
There are no known drug interactions with ADAGENŽ (pegademase bovine) Injection. However, Vidarabine is a substrate for ADA and 2'-deoxycoformycin is a potent inhibitor of ADA. Thus, the activities of these drugs and ADAGENŽ (pegademase bovine) Injection could be substantially altered if they are used in combination with one another.
Adagen (Enzon Inc.) Contraindications
There is no evidence to support the safety and efficacy of ADAGENŽ (pegademase bovine) Injection as preparatory or support therapy for bone marrow transplantation. Since ADAGENŽ (pegademase bovine) Injection is administered by intramuscular injection, it should be used with caution in patients with thrombocytopenia and should not be used if thrombocytopenia is severe.
