A COMPARISON OF BRAIN WAVE BIOFEEDBACK WITH EEG-DRIVEN STIMULATION (EDS)

Traditional EEG EDS
Traditional EEG biofeedback requires cognitive learning and the ability to discriminate between different conscious states.
Mastery relies on the patient developing skills which they were formerly lacking. 		EEG-Driven Stimulation (EDS) is a cognitively passive process, and does not require attention or lerning. The patient only needs indicate personal discomfort with the learning. brightness of the lights, and to sitwith eyes closed throughout the session.
<Duration of treatment with EEG Biofeedback:

Minimum: 30 sessions for treatment of attention-deficit disorder.
Average: 40 to 60 sessions 		Duration of treatment with EDS:
Minimum: 6 sessions for MTBI for formerly high-functioning patients.

Average: 26 for all others, excluding stroke and spinal cord problems.
Focus of treatment: The goal of most EEG feedback is to minimize the low frequencies and selectively reinforce one of the higher frequency bands for attentional deficit/hyperactivity problems, or to maximize low to mid frequency bands for chemical dependency problems. EDS reduces the amplitude of the EEG across all bands, which supports the observation that the increase in low frequency activity is a typical pattern in many chronic problems.
EEG feedback strives to reshape the EEG amplitude activity across the spectrum. EDS addresses the twin issues of both hypersensitivity to stimulation by the application of a desensitization process to cortical hyperreactivity, and to hyperreactivity to stimulation by reshaping the EEG amplitude activity across the spectrum.
EEG feedback sites are chosen for treatment on the basis of their association with specific problems on the basis of prior EEG feedback experience and neuropsycho-logical literature.
 EDS sites and the sequence for attending to them are chosen empirically by evaluating their delta and alpha amplitudes and standard deviations
